National Certificate in Pork Production (Core Skills) (Level 2)
Key Topics This qualification, gained in the workplace, is an introduction to modern piggery practices. It covers the knowledge and skills relating to pig welfare, health, husbandry, biosecurity, handling and health and safety.
Duration 12 months
Who should attend? People who are new to the pork industry or those that have been in the industry for some time and want a formal qualification.
National Certificate in Pork Production (Stockperson) (Level 3) with strands in Grower Unit, Indoor Operation and Outdoor Operation
Key Topics This qualification covers the skills required to care for pigs, prepare pigs for transport and maintain the health and welfare of pigs and their environment. Electives allow participants to select topics which are relevant to their job and career goals.
Duration 18 months
Who should attend? People who are involved with the care of pigs in a pork production unit.
National Certificate in Pork Production (Herd Manager)
(Level 4)
Key Topics This qualification covers the care of a pig herd at all stages of development including feed supplies, work routines, selection of pigs for sale, transport requirements and pork production unit performance and throughput. People will gain knowledge of pig breeding, diseases and disorders, physical and financial performance, health and safety and biosecurity issues. Elective topics include pork production, assessment of learning, first aid and agrichemical use.
Duration 18 months
Who should attend? People who manage a pork production breeding unit.
National Certificate in Pork Production (Grower Unit Manager) (Level 4)
Key Topics This qualification covers the care of weaner and grower pigs, feed supplies, work routines, selection of pigs for sale, transport requirements and pork production unit performance and throughput. Participants will gain knowledge of weaner pig husbandry, diseases and disorders, physical and financial performance, health and safety and biosecurity issues. Elective topics include pork production, assessment of learning, first aid and agrichemical use.
Duration 12 months
Who should attend? People who manage a pork production grower unit.
